The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey suffered a cyber attack, when the personal details of almost two thousand students were accessed by hackers. The details included far more than just phone and address details too; tuition aid and loan information of several hundred students and more than a thousand alumni were illegally hacked and accessed by the hackers. Obviously such access would render the information able to be used for illegal purposes, or to steal the identities of the victims, possibly with the intention of setting up false bank accounts or manipulating the loan details. A representative of the university admitted the school new of the hack because the hackers left deliberate tell tail signs of their hack. Further, this was the second hack attempt at the university, whose payroll system was unsuccessfully hacked just prior to the current attack.
