The proliferation of "drive-by-downloads" has prompted Microsoft into action, with the company delivering crucial Vista patches this week. The patches will apparently fix several critical flaws in the software. One of the major areas of concern was the world's most popular browser, Internet Explorer. Concerns were raised that IE would be unable to defend itself against websites that inconspicuously install malicious software onto the computers of internet surfers - called "drive-by-downloads." The problem has grown so big that ZoneAlarm will in May release Forcefield worldwide, which allows the web to essentially be surfed inside a bubble, thereby protecting the surfer from mailicious attacks. The critical flaw in Internet Explorer 7 will be corrected in forthcoming updates, but it still will not provide web surfers with adequate protection from the "drive-by-downloads".
