Over the past few days I have spoken about how Macs are becoming more prone to virus attacks. Nobody is safe! I must thank the kind reader who pointed out that in 2007 the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK determined that Apple's advertisements stating that Macs were less likely to pick up or be infected by viruses was correct. Apparently Apple identified 114,000 viruses that infect Windows PCs. That's a lot of viruses, and more are developed every day. What the average computer user needs to understand though is that most of these infections are very easily preventable - the installation of security software goes a long way to protecting PCs. Macs, on the other hand are so "high and mighty" at the moment they really don't understand how vulnerable they are to infection. Web borne viruses will infect any operating system and the prevalence of Macs surfing the net will only motivate virus writers to create more Mac-specific viruses.
