ISP Comcast had a rude shock recently when hackers gained access to its domain name records and redirected comcast.net traffic to a hacked site. The hackers, just teenagers, controlled the site for several hours, despite the attempts of Comcast to retrieve their data. There were 200 domain names involved in the incident and one of the sites had its contact details changed to include vulgar and offensive language. The same hackers were also responsible for a hack on the popular social networking site MySpace.com where they digitally vandalized the profiles of some popular celebrities. This is a perfect example of how hacking can interfere with the surfing experience for the everyday internet user. If these hackers had loaded some dangerous content onto the hacked sites it would have seriously impeded the surfing habits of private citizens. ZoneAlarm ForceField protects against such illegal software downloads.
