Phishing scams attempt to trick people into supplying their personal data, such as credit card details, so that criminal elements can use the data to purchase goods, or build a profile to totally steal a person's identity. Contrary to popular public opinion, such online scams are quite common and they can have devastating effects. People who use the internet are advised to always install internet security software such as ZoneAlarm Internet Security and then to ensure the software is regularly updated. Of course, internet users are also advised not to give out their credit card details on email and through messenger services. Shopping sites that display legitimate security stamps are more than likely not going to be dangerous or malicious.
