Eastern European Hackers Nabbed
10, August 2008
Police have put a dent in an international hacking group operating from Bulgaria and Romania. Seven Romanians have now been charged over an attempt to "phish" the personal details of thousands of bank customers.
More than 38 people are accused of being part of a gang that sent spam emails to bank customers with the intention of stealing bank account details and passwords.
Such phishing scams are quite common and emails look as though they are from legitimate banks seeking their customers to verify some account information by clicking on a link in the email. Once the link is clicked some people are enticed to hand over their account details and passwords, allowing the scammers full access to bank accounts.
ZoneAlarm Internet Security can help protect against phishing scams and other malicious internet activities.
