Kentucky Governor becomes victim of identity theft

02, July 2008

Jack Conway, The Attorney General of the American state of Kentucky was recently the victim of identity theft. Ironically the Attorney General had just started a “cyber crimes” unit and the first case it investigated was his own. Conway first realized his identity had been stolen when he tried to buy some music on i-Tunes. Somebody had stolen his credit card number and had begun to alter his personal profile, including changing his billing address.

The thieves reportedly bought computers and phones on the stolen credit card before Conway realized. The Attorney General warns that similar theft can happen to anyone, and advises citizens to keep a close eye on where they use their credit card, and to report strange transactions as quickly as possible.
