Suspected terrorists become spyware targets in Bav
19, July 2008
In a bid to catch terrorists, the police in Bavaria has turned to spyware. The German state has become the first to allow police to use spyware in their hunt for terrorists.
The new laws actually permit the police to plant the spyware directly onto the suspects' computers. This could involve sneaking into the houses of suspects to infect the PCs.
Germany earlier passed federal laws that permits the infection of terror suspect's computers, but the law restricted the spyware to be spread by email and electronic means only.
It is planned for the spyware to act as a Trojan and to send back vital information to the police about activity and communication occurring on the infected computers.
